The Listener Project Archive

About This Archive

This archive was created in 2024 following the discovery of materials related to The Listener Project at a California estate sale.

The materials — audio tapes, documents, and personal effects — were found inside a vintage radio receiver purchased by an anonymous collector. A handwritten note inside read: "In case of my death, publish everything."

I have no affiliation with NASA, SETI, or any government agency.

I cannot verify the authenticity of all materials presented. Some documents may be fabrications. Some may be genuine. I have no way of knowing.

I simply archive what was found.

Frequently Asked Questions

Was The Listener Project real?

I have found no mention in public NASA records. FOIA requests have returned no results. This could mean it never existed, or that it remains classified.

What was Transmission 77-A?

A 72-second signal received on August 15, 1977. The only transmission successfully translated in full. The content is presented in this archive.

Who is "they" in the final message?

Unknown. The message distinguishes between the sender ("we") and a third party ("they"). The implication is that our signals attracted attention from something other than the sender.

Where is Dr. Elmore?

Unknown since 2003. See the Dr. Elmore profile for details.

Who was Robert Vance?

A technician who worked at the ECHO-1 facility from 1973 to 1977. He died in a single-car accident in 1983. Project materials were found in his vehicle. Evidence from his case was later reported missing from police storage.

Do you believe any of this?

I don't believe anything. I archive.
